What is the SHS Advisory Program?
This program is designed to assist students with their high school experience through a variety of activities throughout the school year. Each SHS staff member is assigned approximately 15-20 students for the duration of his/her four years of high school. Advisory sessions occur on a daily basis lasting approximately 25 minutes. Research demonstrates that personalization of the learning environment—enabling students to know well, and be known well by, at least one adult in their school—leads to improved student outcomes in school. Advisory groups are one effective mean to achieve personalized learning by building supportive relationships between students and teachers.
The focus of these sessions include:
College and Career Readiness
School-Wide Literacy Initiative
Encourage School/Civic Participation
Leadership and Team Building
