The students in Mrs. Davis's 4th grade class participated in the "Letters About Literature Writing Contest for Young Readers" last fall. The contest is sponsored by the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress.
Students in grades 4-12 submitted letters to authors about how one of their books changed his or her views on a variety of subjects. Of the 1,283 letters submitted, the judges selected 286 to compete to be the national winner with a top prize of $1,000.
We are pleased, and excited, to announce that our very own Ally Perkins is a finalists!!! Ally wrote a letter to Carl Hiaasen regarding his book *Flush*. The staff members of Thornville Elementary would like to wish Ally luck as she awaits a response from Mr. Hiaasen and competes for the top prize.
